Connect

On your blog, justify ONE of the interpretations of Connect (or make up another) by referencing the Mise-En-Scene or filmmaking. (2 paragraphs)

Connect is about the mundanity of modern life, the characters are tired and bored, their facial expressions show their exhaustion. The costumes the actors are wearing are mostly suits or formal clothes, mostly grey, this could reflect the boring nature of modern day life. The dark lighting reflects the mundane nature of modern life. One of the characters on the bus is asleep, he is also wearing a dark suit this reflects the slow nature of modern life. The main character doesn't talk and is often daydreaming, this is her escapism from her boring journey. she also touches hands with a man, this highlights her need for escapism. this impacts the audience as they can relate, most journeys home from work are often like this, boring, mundane and exhausting.

Connect also uses mostly close up shots to show the characters facial expressions. the characters mostly have neutral, bored facial expressions, some characters are asleep. This highlights the bored nature of modern life. The woman creates things in her head like the man shooting the woman, this shows her boredom, the main character also touches hands with a man. This could show her lack of connection with other people and how she desires to socialise. the lack of socialising could be causing her boredom and make her need to connect with others stronger. Most of the people on the bus are bored, this is shown through their body language and facial expressions, therefore the main character pretends they are dancing and happy, this makes the main character smile and appear brighter.

Evaluate how successfully your film develops one of the key narrative listed?  mention: mise en scene music sound characterisation editing plot effect on audience The film Portals creates a twist in the narrative at the end by using a reversal of fortune, making the character think they have escaped but then revealing that she has not actually escaped and it was a simulation. Through the film we get hints that the woman could be in a simulation, the way the gun randomly appears from the wall is like something that would happen in a video game. The barcode on her neck also indicates that she is part of a simulation.  The footage on the cctv also suggests that the woman is trapped in a simulation.  Near the end when it is revealed she didn't actually escape we hear doom laden music to emphasise the fact she is trapped.
