 Initial response  Do you find the ending of the film to be satisfying resolution ?  Why ? I found it different and I liked the fact that it wasn't properly resolved, how ever I think the end went on for too long How were you expecting the film to end ?   I wasn't sure but I thought it would end with Anton Chigurh dying or being defeated Why do you feel the Coen Brothers decided to have their main protagonist killed offscreen , and then avoid a final climax between Sheriff Bell and Chigurh ?  Consider the effect on the audience in terms of expectations of genre and narrative,  and the  themes of  law and order v criminality , good v evil , heroism etc. To confuse the audience and make them think about whether good vs evil narratives are always as satisfying, Killing Llewlyn off screen showed that he wasn't really a 'hero' and having Sheriff bell retire before catching Chigurh mace the audience think about who they align with

  How David Lynch uses film techniques to portray ordinary life as nightmarish? The Grandmother is a short film about a boy escaping his abusive father. The film opens with abstract scenery of the boy being born, Lynch uses sounds to show the Fathers behaviour when the boy is born, the fathers violence is shown through animal noises and abusive imagery. His parents bark abuse at him and push his face in urine when he wets the bed. so the boy grows and grandmother from a seed. Lynch creates a surreal unique world using pastel colours to make things look sickly and slightly uncomfortable. Lynch uses animation to simplify reproduction and birth seem simple and mechanic, The animation is mainly black and white with slight bits of red. This creates unearthly, disturbing connotations to the audience. The costumes the actors are wearing are mostly suits or formal clothes, mostly grey, this could reflect the boring nature of modern day life. The dark lighting reflects the mundane nature of modern life. One of the characters on the bus is asleep, he is also wearing a dark suit this reflects the slow nature of modern life. The main character doesn't talk and is often daydreaming, this is her escapism from her boring journey. she also touches hands with a man, this highlights her need for escapism. this impacts the audience as they can relate, most journeys home from work are often like this, boring, mundane and exhausting.   Why is the short film ‘Wallace & Gromit’ engaging? (2-3 paragraphs)   Wallace and Gromit is engaging because it uses binary opposites to help create tension. The Narrative uses binary opposites to show Gromit as the typical hero and The Penguin as a typical villain. The penguin appears innocent when the audience first meet him but as the narrative continues Gromit discovers the penguin is a master criminal, this plot twist is engaging for the audience as it makes the audience wonder what will happen in the narrative. The penguin is shown to the audience to be intrusive when he gets let into the house and immediately tales Gromit room, this makes the audience not like the penguin and the audience want to see what is happening with the penguin and they hope Gromit will get revenge.
